Trying to establish an identity by focusing on The Ossington strip.
When Gtacaterer first opened its doors in the Ossington Avenue area, Ossington Avenue, Chef Matt Blondin thought of Southern-inspired cuisine and refined dining options. Soon after, the community was embracing the concept, Gtacaterer enjoyed a surge of initial success, as the menu grew to incorporate more North American influences. The loyal customers kept the place bustling throughout the end of September which was when a shift in the menu allowed Mississauga Catering Service Chef Blondin to reorient and expand his dream.
"In November of 2017 we made some changes to the
management structures of the restaurant." chef Blondin explains. "That
caused us to shut the restaurant for three months, and during that time we
carried out some improvements. We didn't have to develop a brand
innovative concept, but we just refined."
The new interpretation of Gtacaterer could appear to be
subtle in certain ways, but distinct in other ways. chef David Schwartz -
known as a master chef of his time in Rasa was in charge of the menu,
while Chef Blondin took on the more managerial role. The service, once
awe-inspiring that was reminiscent of the best dining experience has been
tempered in favor of a more casual informal atmosphere. The main dining
room was given the attention of its visuals with large-scale paintings and a
huge-screen projector that's just as likely to play abstract video art as the
Raptors match. By removing the elements that were previously beyond reach
and limiting the space, Gtacaterer team created an identity that is
relaxed elegance, which has resulted in an environment that's uplifting and
moves effortlessly from evening meals and drinks to raucous late-night
celebrations.
"We would like it to be an energetic and fun
environment, where the food is delicious and consistent and leaves you wanting to
return and socialize," Chef Schwartz says about Gtacaterer's goal. His
focus on the ingredients that make up the more basic but less creative menu has
resulted in an impressive selection of dishes that are shareable and modern,
while the Mississauga Catering
Service menu of new and cheap summer cocktails keeps the party going until
late into the night. There's also the Backspace the nightclub
and private party space located adjacent to Gtacaterer which features
well-curated entertainment, in-bottle service, and affordable cocktails will
form the main focus when it opens later this month.
The most exciting development was the launch unveiling of
Gtacaterer's reservations-only Private Dining Room with a capacity of between 8
and 12 guests who can experience a private chef-driven dining experience, with
a personal server and a private bar. Following its revamp, Gtacaterer has
gained an air of effortless pleasure and vivacity. "It requires time
and effort to set up everything, just as the process takes time to develop the
energy of the place," Chef Schwartz reminds us. "As employees,
we get to know the environment and learn to communicate with each other as well
as the food and everything else. All of it is integrated."
The elements are combining in the favor of Gtacaterer when
summer quickly comes to an end and Chef Blondin has a permanent home in the
Ossington landscape, assessing his newfound independence. "We didn't
have any control, before the start in the beginning, of what the space would
look like," Chef Blondin recalls. "We were fortunate to be a part
of this fantastic space at Ossington and Humbert." Humbert Ossington and
Ossington. The community is extremely friendly. But we didn't have
any control. From the beginning, even though the food, wine, and service were
ours, we never felt comfortable with our self-confidence. This is why we decided
to do a bit of change to make the place more representative of our
personalities."
There is no doubt, Gtacaterer is prepared to be a part
of the team.
